Original Xbox Repair, Recaps & Modchips
The Original Xbox is over 20 years old, and its capacitors are leaking whether it's plugged in or not. We bring dead consoles back, protect healthy ones from damage, and install modern modchips on every board revision from 1.0 to 1.6.
Capacitor replacement
Leaking or aging capacitors around the CPU replaced with fresh, quality parts. A common cause of consoles that won't boot.
Clock capacitor removal
The infamous clock capacitor on 1.0 to 1.4 boards removed before it leaks and eats the traces around it.
ModXO & modchips
ModXO installs running PrometheOS and Cerbios, with pin headers and a D0-ET for permanent D0 grounding.
LPC rebuilds (v1.6)
Version 1.6 boards had the modchip port removed at the factory. We rebuild it so a modchip can be installed.
TSOP flashing (v1.0 to 1.4)
Unlock and flash the console's own BIOS chip for a permanent mod with no modchip at all.
Cooling & quiet fans
Fresh thermal paste, MCPX heatsinks, and Noctua fan swaps for a cooler, much quieter console.
If your Original Xbox has been sitting in a closet, it's worth a check-up even if it still works. The electrolytic capacitors on these boards are now decades old, and the clock capacitor in particular is well known for leaking and damaging the board around it.
Not sure which revision you have? We'll identify it when the console comes in and tell you which mod options make sense before doing any work.

4 photosCommon questions
01
My Original Xbox won't boot. Can it be fixed?
Usually. Failed capacitors, damaged traces and power faults are the most common causes, and most are repairable. We diagnose it first and quote before any work starts.
02
Should I remove the clock capacitor?
On 1.0 to 1.4 boards, yes. It's known to leak and corrode nearby traces. The console works fine without it. The only difference is the clock may need setting again after the power has been unplugged for a while.
03
Can a version 1.6 Xbox be modded?
Yes. Version 1.6 needs an LPC rebuild first, because Microsoft removed the port modchips connect to. Once that's rebuilt, a modchip like ModXO can be installed as normal.
04
ModXO or TSOP flash: which should I get?
TSOP flashing is only possible on 1.0 to 1.4 boards and needs no extra hardware. ModXO works on every revision and is easy to update. We'll recommend the best fit for your console.
05
Do you install games?
No. Mods are installed so you can run homebrew and back up media you own. We don't provide or install pirated games or copyrighted BIOS files.
